Iran
Iran:
divided over its future - Iran,
both one of the most culturally richest nations
in the Middle East and at the same time a religious
theocracy, faces the challenge of recovering
from a 20th-century history of elections, foreign
coups, revolution and intrigue. Expected to
be perhaps the next country to possess nuclear
arms, a new chapter will soon be written of
the relationship between Iran and the United
States.
Currently this conflict has taken
the path of increasingly hostile rhetoric between
the two countries and between Iran's leader,
Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, and Israel. In a public
statement last October, Ahmadinejad called for
Israel to be "wiped
off the map."
