Space
city USA - Houston holds the mantel
as the third largest city in the U.S. and largest
city in Texas. Once a sleepy town on Buffalo
Bayou, Houston is now a diverse and culturally
rich city of millions of people from every part
of the world and is the home of NASA's Johnson
Space Center.
Houston is world renowned for
its energy industry (particularly oil), aeronautics
industry and ship channel. The Port of Houston
is one of the busiest ports in the United States,
second in the world as far as foreign tonnage.
Because of the economic trades, many residents
have moved in from other U.S. states, as well
as hundreds of countries worldwide. As the largest
city in the United States without zoning laws,
Houston has grown in an unusual manner. Rather
than a single “downtown” as the center
of the city's employment, various other business
districts have sprung up throughout the inner-city.
