The Capitol
City - Near the center of Texas,
Austin is home to several peace groups and activities
along with many statewide organizations. Throughout
the year, the State Capitol is often the location
for a variety of peace and social justice demonstrations
and rallies.
Austin is the capital of the state
of Texas and the and the 17th largest in the
U.S. Austin was founded in 1835 and is situated
on the Colorado River, with three lakes within
the city limits. These lakes are all on the
Colorado River and a source for electricity,
water, and recreation.
Austin is an eclectic city with
diverse cultures and a wide range businesses.
It is home to several universities including
the University of Texas. Austin is the self-proclaimed
"live music capital of the world," with a vibrant
live music scenes, and an active film industry.
Known as "the Silicon Hills", Austin
is also home to many hi-tech companies including:
Dell, IBM, Motorola, AMD, Cirrus Logic, Apple
Computer, and many game and software companies.
