Please endorse the Texas statement to stop the escalation of the war in Afghanistan

“No Escalation in Afghanistan” is the call of a broad coalition of organizations across the state of Texas should President Obama choose to escalate the war in Afghanistan by sending additional troops.

While Texans support our troops, most stand in complete opposition to this escalation and want all soldiers brought home from a war that is unwinnable and is of little benefit to the people of the United States of America or Afghanistan.

In its 9th year, the war and occupation of Afghanistan has nearly surpassed the length of LBJ's disastrous Vietnam war. The ongoing conflict takes resources away from real problems – economic insecurity, institutional violence, international terrorism and the global spread of war - and wastes hundreds of billions of dollars from the national treasury that could go to serve real human needs.

Coalition spokespersons, which include the Dallas Peace Center, the Crawford Peace House, the South Texas Alliance for Peace and Justice, Waco Friends of Peace, the Austin Center for Peace and Justice, Houston Peace and Justice Center, the Border Peace Alliance, and Texans for Peace [See attached list of local organizations], stress that their opposition to escalation with any number of additional troops, remains firm.

These groups call now for withdrawal of all military and paramilitary personnel and to begin the reconstruction of a nation badly damaged by this War.
